Dear Dirty Hit

We are students from Southgate School currently studying Media Studies at A level. We are currently in the process of preparing for our production coursework, which consists of planning and creating a music video.

We believe that 'Loving Someone' by The 1975 would be the perfect song for our music video and we are writing to you today to ask for your permission for its use.

The narrative based video follows three young, rebellious teenagers who decide to break into a church. Each of their stories are displayed to the audience through a series of flashbacks, which explain why they are deciding to rebel. The end of the video sees each of their issues resolved as they begin to realise how futile their actions are. For example, one teenager turns to thieving to fulfil his addiction to alcohol and decides, by the end of the video, to return the stolen alcohol to the shop after his experience in the church.

Our work will be assessed by OCR examining board and exhibited at the Southgate School Media Oscars.

Description of the Location:

House, Bedroom

108 Prince George Avenue N14 4TA

Purpose of the location:

The bedroom will be used to shoot Anna’s prostitution scene. The bedroom scene will display a male controlling Anna who is covered in lights through a switch. The bedroom walls will also be covered in white sheets and pictures of woman in magazines will be projected onto them.

List three points that make this location suitable for the purpose:

•        Stereotypical house setting is conventional

•        Indoors so avoids bad weather

•        Quiet area

List two points that might make this location unsuitable for your purpose:

•        May be difficult gaining permission to film within the house

•        May not be enough electrical points for equipment

If you use this location what will you have to be aware of?

When filming we must be aware of other members of the house in order to avoid background noise and interruptions. We must also be aware of cables and the tripod when filming depending on the size of the room as someone could trip over them.

Londis,

Barnet Hampden Square

Purpose of the location:

Our first main character Jason is introduced as mentally unstable, smoking and drinking as a release. Part of our narrative focuses around Jason shoplifting hence why a small corner shop would be a suitable location for our narrative. Jason steals a bottle of vodka from an aisle putting it into his jacket and then drinking it in an alleyway.

List three points that make this location suitable for the purpose:

•        Local, familiar building therefore allowing the audience to relate to the situation.

•        Many isles of food and drink, therefore a choice of props and space to film and variation of shots.

•        Filming in the evening meaning the shot will be closed therefore customers and the general public wont interrupt us.

List two points that might make this location unsuitable for your purpose:

•        May be limited to time allowed to film within the shop due to it being a public place, therefore must be locked at a certain time.

•        Lightning is difficult to control due to intense high key main shop lights which cannot be switched off.

If you use this location what will you have to be aware of?

When filming we must be aware of cables and the tripod when filming, the wires could  get caught or ripped and someone could trip over them when filming . Moreover, we must respect the fact that Londis is a local shop which is in public use meaning people may interrupt our filming.

Description of the Location:

House, Bathroom

Purpose of the location:

The bathroom will be used to shoot Yioda’s self-harm scene. The focus will be on the bath filled with red water. Yioda will be seen submerging herself under the water. The bathroom is ideal as it provides a location an audience will be familiar with.

List three points that make this location suitable for the purpose:

•        Stereotypical bathroom setting is conventional

•        Indoors so avoids bad weather

•        Quiet area

List two points that might make this location unsuitable for your purpose:

•        The large amount of water involved could pose a risk to our equipment

•        May not be enough electrical points for equipment such as chargers and lights

If you use this location what will you have to be aware of?

When filming we must be aware of other members of the house in order to avoid background noise and interruptions. We must also be aware of cables as filming will take place near water. Moreover, we must be aware of any water getting on or in the camera as we will be filming close to the filled bath.

Description of the Location:

St Thomas Church,

Oakwood,

London N14 4SN

Purpose of the location:

Our music video is based on the ideology of a church therefore the church will feature throughout in various shots. St Thomas' establishes our production through a panning shot and appears again in each chorus and towards the end, as the main characters reform and return to the church to lead a new path.

List three points that make this location suitable for the purpose:

·             Stereotypical, iconic holy motif which is unique and conventional to the indie genre due to its unusual atmosphere.

·             Outdoor and indoor so have a lot of space to film and variation of shots

·             Quiet area during the afternoon and evening so we wont be disrupted

This location is suitable as it allows us to successfully include all 4 technical codes within our production. The area has natural high key lighting allowing us to gain high definition shots creating a dramatic effect and connoting the white light church ideology. The mise-en-scene fits with our scene as the decor and exterior link with the mysterious, pale connotations of the Indie genre. Moreover, the shots inside the church and stained glass windows relate to our church based narrative creating a sense of verisimilitude allowing the audience to place themselves in this familiar situation. Finally, the church gives us enough space to experiment with a variety of camera shots without the risk of small spaces and noise interruptions which may occur in an public space or house location for example.

List two points that might make this location unsuitable for your purpose:

·             Bad weather, e.g rain

·             There are no easy access electrical points for equipment

·             Time to film varies due to church services

If you use this location what will you have to be aware of?

When filming we must be aware of cables and the tripod when filming, the wires could  get caught or ripped and someone could trip over them  when filming . Moreover, we must respect the fact that St Thomas' is a local church owned by people who live on site and there are activities going on in the hall next door meaning people may interrupt our filming.
